Monks on Vacation launch their new collection

clothing guildford pop up shop apparel ethical fashion made in England fashion

I am so thrilled to welcome back the lovely local brand Monks on Vacation to the &hobbs gallery on the 14th and 15th of July.

Come to visit their new Zighy Bay Resort Collection alongside some of our favourite pieces from their range.

Heres a little from Anneli the lady behind this wonderful brand:

Monks On Vacation was launched in 2015 by myself, Creative Director Anneli Nowroz, and is based just outside Guildford.

MOV is a small British brand and the majority of fabrics are knitted in the UK.

All production is done in North London and we have a great working relationship with them and our collaborators such as the Scottish print designer Katie Charleson.

Keeping everything ‘local’ makes it much easier for us to produce our small runs close to home. This has also enabled us to build fabulous relationships with our producers, to visit the factories where our fabrics are being knitted and to see the working environment in which our products are produced.

Our collections are small and are comprised of a limited number of designs with small runs. This ensures our customer gains something relatively unique in their purchase. Each piece works with each other to form a capsule wardrobe and are transitional in design so will work for a number of activities all year round.

The full collection can be viewed online and in the coming months at various Pop Up Venues.

We are looking forward to it! So pop the 14th and 15th in your dairies.

I am so thrilled to welcome the wonderful Guildford based independent business DECO BABY to our gallery for their first Pop Up shop!

This Scandinavian inspired interiors brand holds items to create the most peaceful and engaging environments for your little ones, as you all know creating place that encourages calm, interaction nd character is so important to me and when you have wee ones scampering about its just as if not more so to enhance the space that you inhabit.

A little from the lady behind Deco Baby, Catehrine Beck.

"I am English / Dutch wife to Jon and mum to Ethan, 5. I have always had a passion for design & interiors and this was enhanced when I began to create a space for my son Ethan. When it came to decorating his nursery I couldn't find much that fitted my style or my home, thus Deco baby was born!  My background is graphic design and event management so I have always been in the creative industry and could not help but see my love for home products and my ethos develop into my new business.

I really enjoy sourcing our products from small makers and creative brands from all around the World who care about our environment and share my passion for quality in our  homes.  I like to choose interior items that have longevity, that will grow with the child never becoming un fitting what ever the age, whatever the home.

Most of our products are ethically manufactured and where possible organic."

Faodail Woodworks Pop up

Joing our gallery space this Novemebr is the creative couple behind Faodail. A little woodworks company based in Abinger in Surrey (thats just up the road to you locals!)! We are so looking forward to the gallery being adorned in all of their wonderful products!

Heres a little bit about them!

Faodail Woodworks was started when Chris was at a crossroads and ultimately decided he wanted to do what he’d enjoyed since he was small - make things. He’s happiest when in his workshop creating. Bex works full time in Finance and luckily for Chris, agreed to help him out. Aside from driving the business forwards, her wonderful creative side has led her to design many of the products we currently make.

'We sell home decor items made from either reclaimed or responsibly sourced FSC approved timber, handmade in the heart of Surrey.

Our customers are diverse and we love it, whether you’re a husband looking for a gift for his wife or a young couple looking to put a stamp on a newly bought home. We are expanding our product line to appeal to a broader range of people.

We feel we’ve come a long way since we’ve started and want to continue expanding our range and using new techniques and materials- not hard when we have so much inspiration around us. '

We are very excited to showcase our products in &Hobbs and hope to see you there!

The Berbice Chair
to Oct 25

The Berbice Chair

Come to the &hobbs gallery for a truly inspirational Pop-Up with Erica and her Berbice chair.

A little about this stunning brand:

The Berbice chair is a great tropical tradition. Also known as a Planters or Plantation chair, it was introduced to the Colony of Berbice by European Plantation owners during the 17th century. The perfect chair to relax in after long tiring days!

Eight generations back, on my maternal side, Abraham Jacob van Imbyze van Batenburg was a Dutch governor of Berbice and Essequibo (Guyana, S. America) and the patriarch of the tropical branch of our large family. Clearly Abraham would have relaxed after the rigours of his day in a Berbice chair!

More recently, mid 60's - mid 70's I spent blissful Sundays at No. 63 beach in Berbice, no chairs on the beach itself but kites, cricket, coconut water and miles of sand. My father spent his youth racing motorbikes on that beach often necessitating periods of recuperation in - you guessed it - a Berbice chair!

To sit back in one is to relinquish your worries and travel to a happy place - try it!

I particularly enjoy wearing the scarves as a head turban - it makes me feel like a strong woman, ready to take on anything - a Grace Jones kind of vibe”.
